SALT LAKE CITY ( ABC4 ) — Happy Tuesday, Utah! Northwest flow over northern Utah will keep temperatures near or just below seasonal averages through the holiday, with high heat set to return for all areas this weekend.

It’s a cooler day for much of the state following Monday’s cold front. Daytime highs are trending 3-5 degrees cooler than normal along the Wasatch Front with mid-80s expected.

In southern Utah, the high heat hangs on with more triple-digit temperatures in store. Daytime highs will be roughly 5 degrees above average for St. George with 104 expected with breezy winds remaining. Winds will remain elevated for southern Utah through midweek with stronger winds through eastern and central Utah Wednesday afternoon, possibly into Thursday, thanks to another weak system passing through.

On Wednesday, critical fire weather conditions are expected, especially near canyon areas, where fire weather watches have been issued. Fire weather watches are for portions of Uinta, Grand, Emery, Kane, and Garfield Counties. Wind gusts up to 35 mph are expected with sustained winds of 10-25 mph. Outside of some fire weather concerns on Wednesday, the weather will be relatively calm.

On Independence Day, northern Utah will see high temperatures 5 to 10 degrees below normal for July 4th, with comfortable mid-70s by evening. In contrast, southern and eastern Utah will remain hot and dry, with little change from day to day. In southern Utah, particularly St. George, temperatures will be closely monitored from Sunday to Tuesday, with highs expected between 111 and 113+ degrees.

No significant precipitation is expected, as moisture is likely to skirt around the high-pressure ridge setting up in the area, impacting areas to the east instead. Stay tuned!

The 4Warn Weather Team will continue to monitor conditions and keep you posted on changing conditions both on our 4Warn Weather app as well as on-air and online, we are Good4Utah!
