    MONROE COUNTY — Local businesses and organizations share recent news about their employees.

    Kate Hall receives state credit union award

    Kate Hall, vice president of strategic management at Monroe Community Credit Union , was awarded the 2024 Young Professional of the Year Award at Michigan Credit Union League's annual convention and exposition in Traverse City.

    “Kate’s enthusiasm for community service and her unwavering dedication to our mission are truly commendable,” said Kristine Brenner, president/CEO of MCCU. “Her leadership has been a driving force behind the positive changes within our organization and the broader community.”

    "Receiving the Michigan Credit Union League's Young Professional of the Year award is an incredible honor," Hall said. "This achievement reflects the support and opportunities I’ve had throughout my career, as well as the collective efforts of our team and community partners.”

    Jamie Harvey receives regional nursing honor

    Jamie Harvey, BSN/RN, director of nursing at MediLodge of Monroe , was named Nurse Leader of the Year.

    "This award is not only for Michigan, but for the region as a whole and is presented by the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration in Long Term Care," MediLodge said in a news release.

    Harvey has been a nurse for 14 years; she's been at MediLodge for six years.

    "During Jamie’s time with the company, she has received a perfect annual survey from the State of Michigan in 2019, a survey in 2023 with zero clinical citations and a small number of minimal citations in between," MediLodge said in the release.

    Dr. Robert Layman completes tenure on board

    In 2013, Dr. Robert Layman, owner of Pinnacle Eye Group in Lambertville, was elected to the American Optometric Association Board of Trustees. He just completed his term.

    “He has been on the board of trustees since 2013, serving as a trustee and then each officer position,” Layman’s office said in an email to The Monroe News. “He became president of the AOA in June of 2021, serving a one-year term. In an unprecedented move he was asked to remain president of the AOA for another term, 2022-2023, finishing his AOA trustee time as the past-president.”

    Lisa Young talks about Paula's House

    Lisa Young from Paula’s House spoke recently to members of the Nancy DeGraff Toll Chapter , Daughters of the American Revolution.

    "She shared with us the extensive program they have for women and their children. It was very interesting to hear of all the programs offered to women to assist them on the road to recovery and becoming responsible women and parents," said DAR's Deborah Comer.

    Paula's House, Young said, is an in-house center that offers women in-house treatment for 30 days and outside support for up to two years.

    "She informed us of how various agencies in Monroe County work with Paula’s House in providing care and a future for these women and children. There is a waiting list," Comer said. "In support of Paula’s House, our members brought in donations, which included diapers, baby wipes and the like ,which filled the top of an eight-foot table and the back seat of her car, from floor to ceiling."
