NFL re-draft gifts Patriots a superstar quarterback in the first round

During the dead stretch of the NFL's offseason, there's a lot of time for discussions about some of the best players in the league and fabricating a fictional football universe just for our amusement.

On Tuesday, NFL draft analyst Chad Reuter got in on the fun by putting together a seven-round re-draft where everyone is available to be selected.

Using the same draft order as the 2024 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders took Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, respectively.

This left the New England Patriots at No. 3 overall with their pick of any other player in the league, and Reuter had them take current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Here's what Reuter wrote about the selection:

"Burrow recently said he's considered his football mortality after dealing with a season-ending injury for the second time in four years. Given the quarterback's talent and competitive nature, the Patriots take a chance he returns to form in 2024."

Since Tom Brady left the Patriots at the end of the 2019 season, New England has been searching for consistent, reliable play at quarterback, and outside of Mac Jones' rookie season, they haven't gotten it.

Burrow would stabilize things for the Patriots and give them a quarterback that other players would come to New England to play with. The value of that alone can't be overstated.

Back in reality, the Patriots used their 2024 first-round selection on North Carolina's Drake Maye, and if he's anything like Burrow, the pick was a success.
