    Can you buy alcohol on July 4th in New York?

    Whether your Fourth of July plans consist of spending the day on the water or watching a fireworks show from your couch, many prefer to celebrate with a refreshingly cold can of beer or glass of wine. According to 2024 data from Capitol One Research , Americans spent approximately $4.02 billion on alcohol last year, most of it coming through beer sales.

    Here's what to know about purchasing alcohol in New York on the Fourth of July.

    Can you buy alcohol from stores in NY on the Fourth of July?

    Yes, you can. There are no restrictions on alcohol sales in New York on the Fourth of July.

    Can you buy alcoholic beverages in NY grocery stores?

    Grocery and convenience stores can sell beer and "wine products," but all other alcohol sales are restricted to licensed liquor stores.

    What hours can alcohol be sold or served in NY?

    Alcohol can be sold 24 hours a day in grocery and convenience stores throughout New York but alcohol can't be served between the hours of 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. on weekdays and 4 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sundays, the New York State Liquor Authority says.

    Most counties in New York allow alcohol to be sold in liquor and wine stores between 8 a.m. and 12 a.m. on weekdays but some have differing hours. For example, you can only buy alcohol from liquor and wine stores in Monroe County between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m.

    • Jones Beach's Fireworks Spectacular: 1 Ocean Pkwy. in Wantagh, Long Island, fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.
    • Lyndonville's 4th of July Celebration: 2 South Main St. in Lyndonville, fireworks start at 10 p.m.
    • Town of Union's July 4th Extravaganza: 801 Hooper Rd. in Endwell, fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.
    • Lake Placid's July 4th Celebration: Main Street in Lake Placid, fireworks start at 9:30 p.m.
    • New York State's Fourth of July Celebration: Empire State Plaza in Albany, fireworks start around 9:15 p.m.
    • Watkins Glen's 4th of July Fireworks: 586 E 4th St. in Watkins Glen, fireworks start around 9:30 p.m.
