WICHITA COUNTY ( KFDX/KJTL ) — Officials with the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office are warning community members to beware of fraudulent telephone calls many residents are receiving.

According to a press release issued on Wednesday, July 3, 2024, by WCSO officials, residents of Wichita County are receiving fraudulent phone calls from individuals claiming to be employees of the sheriff’s office.

WCSO officials said the fraudulent callers are informing residents that they have outstanding warrants for their arrest, advising residents to purchase gift cards or bitcoin, and then calling them back to ask for the numbers on the card.

According to the press release, the WCSO does not call people to inform them of outstanding warrants, nor do they take credit or debit card numbers over the phone.

WCSO officials urge any community members who receive such a call to hang up. Residents who feel they have received a suspicious call are urged to contact the WCSO at (940) 766-8170.

WCSO officials also urged residents never to give out credit cards or any other identifying information to someone who calls on the telephone but only to the business they initiated the call with.
