Registration for VCSC Pre-K programs is now open

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — With the school year approaching, the Vigo County School Corporation wants to remind parents about their Pre-K program.

The curriculum for this program has a play based approached that teaches kids how to properly interact with their peers. Deming Early Learning Center Principal Chrissy Jarvis said their emphasis is developing social and emotional skills as they transition into the school system.

She says these skills play a big role when trying to learn.

“When you think of school, you don’t think of how important those social and emotional skills are for students as they make those transitions, so that is kind of our big thing in what we do in all of our Pre-K programs,” Jarvis said. “We feel like we are the foundation and start them off strong as they are making these transitions and arming them with the skills they need.”

Families have the option to do a full or half day depending how ready each student is. There are also scholarships available to help with the cost for those that qualify.

Jarvis said all they want is to make it easier for these students to succeed.

“It gives them the leg up that they need when transitioning into their home schools,” she said. “It is just heartwarming to know that applying the foundation that we are doing here and at our other sites, is allowing them to find success. That is our ultimate goal.”
