New York Jets Warned To Avoid Former Pro Bowl Wide Receiver

As the New York Jets head into the summer, they were recently warned about avoiding a potential player who might be cut.

With the Jets looking to bounce back from a disappointing 2023 season, they have spent much of the offseason looking to upgrade the team. While the injury to Aaron Rodgers derailed last season, New York’s roster had some other holes on the offensive side of the ball.

This offseason, the Jets have addressed the offensive line and the receiving corps in both free agency and the NFL Draft. However, with training camp coming up soon, there could also be some new players available.

One of the players that might be let go before the start of the season is JuJu Smith-Schuster of the New England Patriots. Smith-Schuster is a well-known player in the league from his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers but is coming off a bad, injury-riddled year with the Patriots.

As a potential cap casualty for the Patriots, the Jets were recently warned to stay away from Smith-Schuster.

Here’s what Rivka Boord of Jets X-Factor had to say .

“Some have speculated that if the Patriots cut ties with Smith-Schuster, the Jets could be in contention to pick him up. Not only do I not think this would be wise, but I highly doubt it will happen,” Boord explained for Jets X-Factor.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is not the answer for the Jets

While the Patriots offense wasn’t good last season, Smith-Schuster didn’t perform well either. In 11 games, Smith-Schuster totaled 29 receptions, 260 receiving yards, and just one receiving touchdown. These numbers were down quite a bit from his statistics in 2022 with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Jets may be looking to add another veteran receiver, but Smith-Schuster might not be the choice. With some injury concerns and him only playing in the slot, Gang Green would be wise to pass on him if he becomes available.

As of now, the Jets wide receiver corps look better than last season with the additions of Mike Williams in free agency and Malachi Corley in the draft.

In addition to those two new faces, the Jets will also have Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard returning from last year. Wilson is one of the best wide receivers in the entire NFL, and the Jets will hope that the return of Rodgers can help Lazard bounce back from an awful season.

For the Jets, staying put right now makes the most sense, and if Smith-Schuster does become available, he isn’t the best fit for the team.
