Stephen A. Smith Reacts To BET For Honoring O.J. Simpson: ‘God Will Deal With Him Because God Knows What He Did’

Stephen A. Smith recently went on his podcast and shared his frustration with the BET awards for honoring O.J. Simpson in one of their segments.

In a clip that is currently going viral on X, Smith can be heard questioning why Simpson would be honored when he didn’t care about the black community. “When that kind of stuff happens how do you think that benefits us and that’s a story we don’t get into nearly as much as we should. I’m not blaming any of the folks there in the audience they didn’t know and even though BET is owned by Paramount, it’s still BET and black folks are everywhere and that’s what we’re celebrating? We as a community are going to be held accountable for that,” the sports analyst said.

He added, “the collective whole is what matters, God rest his soul, God will deal with him because God knows what he did and didn’t do. It’s not for me to judge or anybody else to judge but we saw what we saw the trial was televised.”

Now this isn’t the first time Smith has spoke on Simpson, as we previously reported back in April the sports analyst stated that if he was apart of the jury for his trial he would’ve thrown O.J. under the jail while reacting to his death.

“There’s no balance to it. You can remember and you can engage in recall by bringing up his athletic prowess and his tremendous career as a football player,” Smith said. “But it all pales in comparison to him being perceived as a double murderer.

“When you think about O.J. Simpson, you may remember that he’s a football player, but what you remember most is the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. And you think, obviously, of him. There’s no way around that.”

Smith went on to discuss the impact the infamous criminal trial left on the nation. He also mentioned how the late Johnnie Cochran’s profile rose significantly as a result of the media attention surrounding the trial.

“This is what it comes down to. Most people believe that he committed those murders,” Smith said. “I know that if I was on the jury, he would have been (in) the damn jail. I know that much. I believed he was guilty, but I don’t know. I’m talking about based on the evidence that was placed before us during the trial overseen by Judge Lance Ito.”
