    Mississippi deputies save 18-wheeler driver minutes before vehicle caught fire

    RANKIN COUNTY, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Two Rankin County deputies saved an 18-wheeler driver minutes before the vehicle caught fire.

    The incident happened on Monday, July 1 just before 4:45 p.m. on Interstate 20. Rankin County Sheriff Bryan Bailey said the 18-wheeler left the road and crashed into a wooded area.

    Two deputies, who were working a criminal interdiction detail nearby, responded to the crash and were able to remove the driver minutes before the 18-wheeler caught fire from a fuel leak.

    The 18-wheeler driver was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries to his back and hip.

    Bailey said both deputies will be recommended for a lifesaving award.
