BALDWIN COUNTY, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is gearing up for a busy holiday weekend on the roadways.

ALEA Public Information Officer Joshua Thompson told News 5 what they’re looking out for.

“We are looking for a various amount of violations, reckless driving, speed, road rage,” Thompson said.

Alabama troopers don’t have to look far to find motorists breaking traffic laws as some people heading to south Baldwin County are not driving safely.

“This white Volkswagen Passat running 78 in a 55 here on the beach express and in inclement weather, these are the kinds of drivers we will be looking out for this weekend,” Thompson said.

Thompson wrote this motorist a ticket for traveling 23 miles over the speed limit. It’s a ticket that could cost this driver $240.

He said troopers write the most tickets for speeding and seatbelt violations.

“We are looking to see if you’re wearing your seatbelt at all times,” Thompson said. “We are making sure all occupants of the vehicle are wearing a seatbelt; people aren’t aware of that law.”

Thompson said another thing they’re looking out for this weekend is texting and driving.

“The distracted driving law is in effect now; it is a secondary violation,” Thompson said. “If we observe any type of other violation like improper lane usage, you were weaving within your lane and your crossing lane dividers, we will enforce that distracted driving.”

During News 5’s ride along, three people were stopped in 30 minutes; one ticket and two warnings were handed out. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency wants everyone to have a fun holiday, and troopers want you to obey the rules of the road and drive safely.
