    Parole Board member, former assistant prosecutor appointed to Eaton County bench

    A Michigan Parole Board member and former assistant prosecuting attorney has been appointed to the Eaton County district court bench by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

    has been appointed to the 56A District Court, following the resignation of Judge Kelly Morton, who recently was tapped to serve on the 56th Circuit Court.

    Van Langevelde, who has been with the Michigan Department of Corrections since December 2020, previously served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Mecosta and Eaton County prosecutor’s offices. She was the child abuse and neglect prosecutor for three years and as the domestic violence prosecutor, handling all intimate partner cases at the Eaton County Prosecutor’s Office. She also clerked for 56th Circuit Court Judge Thomas S. Eveland.

    said. “I will work diligently to ensure that everyone who comes before me is treated with dignity, respect, and fairness under the law.”

    Van Langevelde, who earned her law degree from Michigan State University College of Law, is a member of the Eaton County Bar Association and previously served as its secretary and treasurer. She has served on the Eaton County Child Abuse Multidisciplinary Team and the Eaton County Domestic and Sexual Violence Coordinating Council, and is a member of the Association of Paroling Authorities International.

    Van Langevelde was elected in November 2021 to serve a two-year term on the Charlotte City Council. She is currently an appointed member of the City of Charlotte’s Tree Board and Parks Committee.

    to the bench in Eaton County,” Whitmer said. She brings a breadth of experience to the job as a prosecutor, member of the state’s parole board, and city councilor. Adrianne will serve the people well and uphold the rule of law.”

    Van Langevelde ’s appointment begins July 22 and expires Jan. 1, 2027.
