Thursday, July 4: Fourth of July fireworks followed by a fine Friday

We’re still expecting storms to dampen 4th of July festivities. So far, it’s just been a hot and muggy afternoon. Isolated showers bubbled up in a few spots south of I-44 late in the afternoon. The main show is coming though. Scattered storms are blossoming across Oklahoma and this activity will develop east tonight along and south of I-44.
The coverage of storms will ramp up across Southwest Missouri and Northwest Arkansas through 10pm. Storms will spread east of Hwy. 65 by 10pm and across Hwy. 63 by midnight. Heavy rain and lightning can be expected. Damaging wind gusts are also possible. The storms will gradually build into a broad complex of rain and thunder with gusty winds on the leading edge by late evening. The risk for large hail looks low and would be isolated in nature. The risk of tornadoes also looks very limited.
Heavy rain will pose a localized flash flooding threat with many spots near and south of I-44 picking up half an inch to an inch and a half of rain. A few spots could see more than 2″.
After Thursday night’s fireworks, we’ll enjoy quiet weather Friday through the weekend. Friday’s weather will come with lower humidity mild summer temperatures and a nice breeze out of the northwest.
The drier air and clear skies will set the stage for a cool Saturday morning. Temperatures will remain comfortable throughout the day and we’ll enjoy abundant sunshine. All in all, great outdoor weather into Sunday.
We’ll start noticing the heat and humidity a bit more by Sunday afternoon.
Back-to-work weather will feature wetter weather. The risk for rain should fade by Tuesday with another nice stretch of weather to follow.
