    Pinpoint Weather: Hot Fourth of July, storms possible

    ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — A hot and humid Fourth of July is in the forecast for Southwest and Central Virginia. Stay cool, hydrated, and weather-aware! Showers and storms are possible during the afternoon and evening.

    To kick off Thursday, morning temperatures will start in the 60s and lower 70s under partly cloudy skies. By the afternoon, temperatures will warm up into the upper 80s and lower/middle 90s. The muggy air will make it feel a few degrees hotter.

    A nearby disturbance will trigger scattered showers and storms during the afternoon and evening. Not everyone will see rain, but a few storms may become strong to severe. Stronger storms may produce gusty winds and downpours.

    The hot and unsettled weather pattern will remain in place through next week. Hit-or-miss showers and storms are possible during the afternoon and evening. Morning temperatures will generally be in the upper 60s and 70s while afternoon highs will be in the middle/upper 80s and 90s. Due to the heat and humidity, isolated strong storms may develop.

    As of 5:00 a.m. on Thursday, Beryl is a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of up to 120 mph. The storm is expected to impact the Cayman Islands during the day, bringing strong winds and storm surge. Beryl should start to weaken later in the week as wind shear increases. It may impact parts of Texas by the beginning of next week.
