Man charged with shooting at house, car

A Wilson man faces an attempted murder charge after police say he fired several gunshots into a home.

Jahterius Antwan Mercer, 18, of 918 College Circle N., is charged with two counts each of attempted first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling.

Sgt. William A. Page, public information officer with the Wilson Police Department, said officers responded to a report of shots fired on the 700 block of Railroad Street about 12:07 a.m. Monday.

“A house and vehicle were damaged by gunfire,” Page said in a news release. “No one was injured.”

Police identified Mercer as a suspect in the case and charged him.

Mercer was arrested and placed in the Wilson County Detention Center without bond.

Mercer is scheduled to appear in Wilson County District Court for a probable cause hearing on July 16.

The defendant already has pending charges of carrying a concealed gun in Wilson County.
