SAVANNAH, Ga (WSAV) – In honor of our nation’s birthday, thousands will flock to Lowcountry beaches to take part in a state-wide patriotic salute.

This will be the 15th annual “Salute From the Shore” and it will take place along the entire Carolina coastline. The idea was born in 2008 when Johnny Folsom and Toddy Smith were enjoying a holiday at the beach, but their minds were on our military. Soon, a new event was born and now every year, people stand in salute during a flyover to honor those who defend our country as we enjoy hot dogs, the beach… and freedom.

Organizes invite everyone to participate in any or all of the following ways:

    1. Head to South Carolina beaches at 1:00 p.m. today.

    2. Be sure to wear red, white and blue.

    3. Bring a flag or a tribute to a loved one.

    4. Post pictures or videos of people saluting the flyover

    5. Tag images with #SaluteFromTheShore

    6. Organizers want to see your salute! You can post your pics directly to their website.

Have fun, be safe, and thank our service members for their dedication to our country.
