    Chance of thunderstorms develops Friday, a few may be strong

    GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Following up a mostly cloudy and fairly humid Independence Day, there’s the potential for scattered thunderstorms today. You’ll want to be mindful of the weather if you’ll be out golfing, on the boat, or taking part in other outdoor plans.     Thunderstorms are expected to be at their most widespread near the midday hours this afternoon triggered by a weak cold front.

    The risk of severe weather will be limited in West Michigan – but a strong thunderstorms locally may be capable of brief heavy downpours, frequent lightning, gusty winds, and small hail. Inland locations have the best chance of a stronger thunderstorm this afternoon.

    Rain chances will diminish as we go through Saturday morning and it’s likely that dry weather will be prevalent until late Sunday night.

    You’ll also notice less humidity and a slight reduction in temperatures going through Saturday and Sunday following the cold front clipping through Friday – dew points will drop by about 10° which will make it feel more comfortable & less sticky.
