FLUVANNA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A Fluvanna County woman’s car was found abandoned off of Interstate 64 in Louisa County on July 4, 2014. Ten years later, the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office is still working to find out what happened to her.

On July 4, the sheriff’s office sent out an updated press release on the disappearance of Janet Renee Field, a 49-year-old woman who lived near the Scottsville area. Her disappearance ten years ago was identified as suspicious, but few leads have developed over time and the case remains unsolved.

According to the office, Fields was last seen by her husband, Lewis Field, at her home on July 2, 2014. Two days later, her car and her personal belongings were found in a commuter parking lot near I-64 at Zion’s Crossroads.

The Virginia State Police Cold Case Database lists that Field’s phone, purse and keys were found in the car, while her license, cash and credit cards were missing.

Fields is said to have often gone by her middle name, “Renee.” According to the database, Fields is a 5’7″ white woman with blue eyes. Her hair was blonde at the time of her disappearance and she was believed to weigh about 130 lbs.

“Due to Janet’s more reclusive lifestyle, traditional missing persons leads have given little insight on Janet’s whereabouts,” the updated release reads.

The database said Fields was “known to frequent plant/gardening stores, health food stores and holistic healing centers.” She had ties to the Short Pump area of Richmond, as well as Lexington.

Even ten years later, the sheriff’s office remains hopeful that Fields can be found. In the updated release, officials ask that anyone who may have known or spoken to Fields or her husband contact the office with any and all information, even if it may seem unimportant.

“We are truly relying on the public for leads and information as we work toward finding Janet and finding closure for her father and family,” the release reads. “Anyone who has been given information or remembers anything about Janet or the time around her disappearance, no matter how insignificant it may feel, is strongly encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Office.”
