Andy Murray's final Wimbledon appearance tugged on the heartstrings of tennis fans everywhere.

After his first-round men's doubles loss alongside his brother Jamie on Thursday, a teary-eyed Murray took the microphone to address fans at Centre Court.

The two-time Wimbledon singles champion withdrew from his first-round singles match on Tuesday, and was clearly still bothered by back pain in Thursday's straight-sets defeat.

When addressing the crowd, Murray shared a heartbreaking message about the injury issues that ultimately forced his upcoming retirement from professional tennis.

"I don't want to stop," Murray said through tears.

"The last few years have been hard for me but I think hard for (my team)," Murray continued, via DailyMail."'Yeah, it has obviously been hard for all of us. The injuries have been tough, quite significant injuries and we've worked extremely hard just to be on the court competing. Probably not at the level any of us wanted, but we tried."

"I want to play forever, I love the sport and it's given me so much," he added. "It's taught me loads of lessons over the years I can use for the rest of my life. I don't want to stop so it is hard."

Murray, 37, intends to retire after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
