WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. - The Whitman County Sheriff's Office says a fire that burned on State Route 26 Thursday was caused by fireworks.

According to the sheriff's office, the fire started in a field near milepost 121 before spreading to a nearby structure. The structure became fully engulfed by flames.

Fire crews were able to get the fire under control and remain on scene to mop up the area.

The sheriff's office says to use extreme caution when celebrating Fourth of July due to the hot and dry weather.
