Sheryl Lee Ralph’s Son’s ‘Wedding Is Still On’ After Hurricane Beryl’s Run Through Jamaica

Sheryl Lee Ralph feels blessed after Hurricane Beryl passed through Jamaica without disrupting her son Etienne Maurice’s much-anticipated wedding.

When Hurricane Beryl hit Jamaica, Sheryl Lee Ralph and her son prayed that the storm would pass through without causing any damage to the island.

And the prayers were answered.

The deadly Hurricane Beryl has been tearing through the southeast Caribbean, including Jamaica. BBC News reported that at least seven people have already been killed in the path of the hurricane over Grenada, Venezuela, and St Vincent and the Grenadines.

According to the National Hurricane Centre, the Category 4 storm will land in Jamaica around midday on July 3. Thanks to Sheryl Lee Ralph, fans on social media will have access to first-hand updates on the storm.

Earlier, the Abbott Elementary star took to X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday to share an update and ask for prayers for the island nation ahead of the storm’s landfall.

Ralph and her family are in Jamaica for her son, Etienne Maurice, whom she shares with her ex-husband Eric Maurice, and her wedding to ABC News journalist Stephanie Wash on Saturday, July 6.

However, after battering Grenada, the category 4 hurricane reached Jamaica, with CNN reporting that it is “expected to spread across much more of the country over the next few hours” and passed through with minimal damage to the island.

The ‘Abbott Elementary’ actress expressed gratitude on social media. However, she continues to call for “help” for the island of Carriacou.

“It looks like the hurricane Beryl has passed and is running like a Jamaican track star off to another race! Thank you all for your good vibes and prayers. We did not get a direct hit, and we are grateful, but Carriacou needs help,” Ralph updated fans on X.

But earlier, before the hurricane hit Jamaica, her son, Maurice, told PEOPLE exclusively that the wedding would come on as planned despite the storm ripping through the area.

In an accompanying video, Ralph said, “Thank you to everybody for your good vibes and prayers.”

“Oh my God — listen to that,” she continued. “That is the sound of the return of peace. We don’t have any lights, there is no power. But we have life.”

According to CNN, the storm’s winds were strongest along Jamaica’s southern coast, but heavy rain fell throughout the island.
