    One dead after truck crashes off I-70 bridge onto Robinson Road

    VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man has died after crashing his pickup truck off an Interstate 70 overpass and landing on a closed portion of Robinson Road.

    According to the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office , investigators believe the driver appears to have entered I-70’s eastbound lanes heading in the wrong direction at Exit 1. The driver then continued into the construction zone and drove into a barricaded area where a portion of the bridge deck had been removed for construction.

    The vehicle then drove past the remaining roadway and crashed off the bridge and into the newly installed bridge support below.

    VCSO Chief Deputy Steve Meng said by the time the vehicle was discovered in the daylight the driver had died.

    Investigators learned that the driver had been in contact with family the night before and had reportedly lost contact after telling them he was lost and possibly fatigued.

    The driver’s identity has not been released at this time.


    Original : Law enforcement is investigating an incident on Robinson Road near Interstate 70.

    The crash occurred Friday morning on an area of the roadway that is currently closed for construction.

    The Vigo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident. No confirmation regarding what occurred has been given, WTWO is working to learn more.
