LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites all trail lovers to take a survey and share experiences with the popular trails throughout the state. Whether it is biking, hiking, horseback riding, off-road riding, or snowmobiling, the DNR wants to know about it.

According to the DNR, Michigan is home to more than 13,000 miles of state-designated trails, and they say there’s a reason Michigan is known as the Trail State.

The goal is to gather information about how people use trails throughout Michigan and allow people to share how the state can improve on certain experiences.

“We’re excited to be gathering information about how Michigan residents and visitors use and enjoy trails throughout our beautiful state,” Tim Novak, state trials coordinator with the DNR’s Parks and Recreation Division, said in a news release.

“We hope all trail users, from hikers and cyclists to paddlers, horseback riders and motorized trail users, will take this opportunity to let us know about their trail experience,” Novak said

“Our goal with this survey is to capture a comprehensive picture of how residents and visitors use trails throughout Michigan and what their ideal trail experience looks and feels like. With this information, we`ll be able to better understand the needs and wants of trail users, which in turn will help inform how we can best ensure optimal trail experiences for everyone, however they get outdoors and explore these pathways across the state.”
