    Two people rescued from Lake Michigan; one remains in serious condition

    The Muskegon Police Department said the two people rescued during high wave conditions at Pere Marquette Park Friday afternoon were a 13-year-old female and a 30-year-old male, the latter of which is in serious condition.

    This is an update to the initial information from City of Muskegon Fire, which said around 4:30 p.m., Muskegon County 911 received reports of a swimmer calling out for help.

    A press release sent out late Friday evening by the Muskegon Police Department said the 13-year-old female was pulled from the water by other beachgoers. The 30-year-old male was was rescued by the Muskegon County Sheriff's Department Marine Patrol.

    Both the female and male are from Saginaw, the press release said. They were taken to Trinity Hospital. The female is expected to make a full recovery, while the male remains in serious condition.

    "We would like to remind all beach-goers to use caution when swimming in Lake Michigan," police said. "Always be mindful of changing weather and surf conditions. Swimming can become especially challenging around structures like the break arms."

    Earlier Friday afternoon, an official with City of Muskegon Fire told FOX 17 the Coast Guard and Muskegon County Sheriff Dive Team were initially en route in case of a rescue, were quickly called off.
