CHARLESTON, WV (WOWK) — West Virginia has another candidate for governor, but this is from a well-known former delegate, launching a third-party bid. The big party candidates get big media coverage, but there are some third-party candidates to keep an eye on.

Marshall Wilson from the Eastern Panhandle wants to be West Virginia’s next governor. He served in the House of Delegate as a Republican, then switched to independent.

This year, he’s running for governor as the Constitution Party candidate but still needs more signatures for his name to be on the November ballot.

Wilson says the public is dissatisfied with the major party candidates: Republican Patrick Morrisey and Democrat Steve Williams.

“You saw that in the primary. I’m from Berkeley County and in my county, 17% of the registered voters showed up to vote. 17%, I mean that’s insane. And yet we determine that these people who are elected actually represent the majority. Well, the majority doesn’t even vote,” said Marshall Wilson, Constitution Party Nominee for West Virginia governor.

Wilson needs to reach 8,000 signatures by August 1 to get his name on the November ballot but is still short by about 2,000 signatures.

There are sure to be other third-party candidates for governor this year, including the Mountain Party’s Chase Linko-Looper, and Erika Kolenich, who is the Libertarian Party candidate.
