One person was killed after a car and tractor trailer crashed early Friday in Lubbock County.

Investigators believe a tractor trailer was heading south on U.S. Highway 84 on a curved portion of the roadway near the intersection with County Road 1400, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The tractor-trailer then traveled into the center of the median and crossed onto the U.S. 84 southbound main travel lanes. That is when a 2014 Hyundai Accent — traveling south on U.S. 84 — was stuck by the tractor trailer around 5:09 a.m. Friday morning.

According to DPS, 64-year-old Kevin Ortiz of Bovina died from injuries suffered in the crash. He was wearing his seatbelt. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured in the crash.

DPS reported that road conditions were dry, and weather conditions were clear at the time of the crash.
