Flash flood warning issued for Pima County

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Pima County starting at 4:51 p.m. July 5. The warning expires at 5:45 p.m. July 5.

Doppler radar indicated a thunderstorm that resulted in 1 to 2 inches of rain between Catalina and Dove Mountain.

Flash flooding was ongoing or expected to begin shortly, especially along Honeybee Wash, Indian Well Wash and Sausaulito Creek as they drain into Big Wash.

Hazards included life-threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Some locations that could experience flash flooding included Catalina, Oro Valley, Tortolita and Catalina State Park.

• Avoid walking or driving in floodwaters. Depth and velocity of the water are not always obvious; the ground or road may suddenly wash away and hidden dangers may exist; do not attempt to evacuate through floodwaters.
• Know how to avoid injury from debris, contaminated water, carbon monoxide poisoning, electrocution, and damaged buildings and infrastructure.
• Seek professional review or inspection of structures and utilities before entering buildings that are flooded.
