Liverpool must break transfer record to sign superstar 'better than Mohamed Salah'

Liverpool has been told it would need to break its current transfer record to bring Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on board this summer.

Manager Arne Slot has hinted a winger is top of his wish list, especially after their pursuit of Newcastle's Anthony Gordon was put on ice after talks didn't progress. Despite boasting talents like Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo , Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah in the squad for another season, there's still a call for an additional offensive force for Slot's team.

A standout name making the rounds in the rumour mill is Napoli's Kvaratskhelia, who according to his proud father, even overshadows the legendary Mo Salah. Kvaratskhelia senior expressed his thoughts in a chat with Calcio Napoli 24:

"It's a wonderful comparison because Salah is a great footballer who has done extraordinary things with Liverpool and Egypt, but we like Khvicha more. Many say that he's the strongest. For me, he is because I'm the father, but hearing it from others fills me with pride."

The comparisons to Salah aren't far-fetched considering Kvaratskhelia's impressive performance in the Champions League last season which saw Napoli lift the trophy. Markus Babbel, former Reds defender, was full of praises for Kvaratskhelia while speaking as part of bet365's Euro 2024 coverage.

He commented, "Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a top and talented player and if he had the chance to come to Liverpool it would be fantastic, especially because of the way Liverpool like to play.

"I think it would be brilliant for him. He's a clever player, he wants to have the ball. He can hit teams on the transition and I think this is the style of play that Liverpool want to do.

"He would be fantastic in the Premier League because he is only 23, but I don't think that Napoli's president will make things easy. If he is to leave it might cost £150 million, even for PSG and Liverpool this could be too much."

The Echo reports that Liverpool, along with two other unnamed Premier League clubs, is showing interest in Kvaratskhelia, despite PSG having their £110m bid rejected. If Liverpool was not prepared to meet Newcastle's alleged £100million valuation for Gordon, perhaps a player like Kvaratskhelia could command a higher fee from them.

Clearly, a deal has been considered, but it remains to be seen whether the club is willing to part with such a significant sum for the 23-year-old.
