Iran's Khamenei congratulates reformist presidential election winner

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has congratulated Masoud Pezeshkian, a political moderate, on winning the presidency.

"I call on everyone to work together," said Khamenei, who wields ultimate power in Iran and has final say on all matters of state.

Khamenei said that the rivalry seen on the campaign trail should be transformed into friendship for the good of the Islamic Republic.

Pezeshkian decisively won Friday's second-round presidential election, defeating ultra-conservative hardliner Saeed Jalili.

The head of the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Hossein Salami, also commended Pezeshkian.

"We are fully prepared to continue and strengthen the cooperation and interaction between the Revolutionary Guards and the government," he said in a statement.
