Mick Schumacher's Formula One test at the Alpine team was very positive, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff has revealed.

"From what I have heard from Alpine, it was a super test. He really delivered, I am happy to hear that," Wolff told Sky TV on Saturday at the British Grand Prix.

"That's the message I got. They are super satisfied, but I didn't expect anything else."

Schumacher, 25, and Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan drove a 2022 Formula One car in Le Castellet on Wednesday.

Schumacher, the son of joint record champion Michael Schumacher, is a Mercedes reserve and test driver, and competes for Alpine in the endurance world championship. He drove for the Haas F1 team in 2021 and 2022 but was not retained.

Alpine team principal Bruno Famin had only spoken of a good test for both and left it open whether one of the two now had an advantage to possibly take the place of Esteban Ocon next season.

"They are both on the list and the list is still rather long. More than three names," Famin said on Friday.

Another Alpine candidate is Carlos Sainz, who has to leave Ferrari after the season, with Lewis Hamilton arriving in 2025. Sainz drove for Alpine under their former name Renault in 2017 and 2018.
