Jurgen Klopp message sent to England before Trent Alexander-Arnold booked semifinals place

German soccer pundit and ex-Chelsea player Sebastian Kneissl has told the Football Association to contact former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp about becoming the next England boss.

But even Kneissl has admitted it is highly unlikely that Klopp would be keen to take the role. Currently on holiday after leaving the Reds at the end of last season, the German isn't retired but has been enjoying life away from the spotlight, watching Taylor Swift , attending the Champions League final , and spending time in Majorca .

Gareth Southgate, though, no matter the outcome of Euro 2024, is likely to leave his role with England after the conclusion of the tournament. He has come under pressure for failing to get the most out of key talents like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden, though the Liverpool number 66 scored a brilliant penalty against Switzerland to send his nation through to the semifinals.

"The FA have to talk to Jurgen! It’s their responsibility to get the best manager in, so of course they have to knock on Jurgen's door," Kneissl told talkSPORT . He added with a laugh: "But will he take it? No!

"Even though they know they would probably get a ‘No’, it’s their responsibility, they have to ask. I think he would be flattered, obviously, but I don’t think he would do it."

Liverpool.com says: Klopp would obviously do a good job as England manager because he is one of the best coaches in the world, but there must be a question mark over whether or not he would actually enjoy working with the players so sporadically. It's a halfway house between a club job and retirement but even so, there are things that he would find frustrating.

In any case, if Klopp were to move into international management, doing so with Germany would likely make a lot more sense. He has also been linked with the USMNT this week , which seems more plausible than England. At least with the US, he would be able to have a change of scenery rather than remaining in the UK.
