Caitlin Clark Makes WNBA History In 2 Categories In The Same Game

Caitlin Clark continues to prove her worth — and just broke two records in one game.

The 22-year-old Indiana Fever guard aided the team’s fourth-quarter comeback Saturday against the New York Liberty by becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to net a “triple-double” — and with just 22 games played, she’s now the fastest player to net 350 points and 150 assists.

The previous record-holder, Sue Bird , accomplished the latter feat in 25 games in 2002.

Getting a “triple-double” means scoring double-digits in three of five categories — assists, blocks, points, rebounds and steals — in a single game. Clark on Saturday netted 19 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.

The Fever ultimately won 83-78 , after an impressive comeback from 11 points down.

“Caitlin Clark records the first triple-double by a rookie in WNBA History and the first triple-double in Indiana Fever history!” the WNBA wrote Saturday on X , formerly Twitter.

And the athletics body reacted in another post to Clark’s 10th rebound: “Why not break another record.”

Clark almost landed her triple-double during last week’s game against Phoenix , but Saturday’s feat was serendipitous. Clarke broke Bird’s record in her 22nd game and wears a No. 22 jersey.

She also set an entirely new record as the first Fever player to get a triple-double in the team’s history.

Clark was the No. 1 pick at the WNBA draft earlier this year. In the weeks since her league debut against the Connecticut Sun in May, Clark — and her interactions with other players — has been the subject of significant media scrutiny, and has received encouragement from none other than the Lakers’ LeBron James.

Clark was ultimately not invited to join the women’s national team at the Olympics this year, but told reporters in June that she’ll be “rooting” for her peers .

“I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics,” she added . “It will be fun to watch them.”
