Reese, the first-year pro, scored a career-high 27 points with 10 rebounds and earned her 12th straight double-double of the season on Friday night as the Sky defeated the Seattle Storm, 88-84.
Reese has tied Candace Parker’s longest streak of double-doubles, which was compiled over a decade ago between the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Carter, who scored 33 points for the Sky on Friday, believes this should earn Reese the No. 1 rookie spot.
“Barbie’s Rookie of the Year. There’s no other way to put it, ” said Carter when asked about Reese’s 12th double-double after the game on ION. “She goes out, she does her work every single night, no matter what team we’re facing. I’m telling you, Barbie’s Rookie of the Year, for sure.”
Though Reese made history Friday night, Caitlin Clark supporters will likely have their own idea about who should win the Rookie of the Year title after the Fever guard etched her own name into the history books Saturday.
Reese, coming into Saturday, has averaged 13.9 points while leading the WNBA with 11.7 rebounds per game.
The pair have been constantly compared to one another this season, leading to record viewership amid a brewing rivalry.
Clark’s popularity — including helping to draw the largest crowd of a WNBA regular season game in 25 years during a Tuesday game in Las Vegas — led to her garnering 700,735 All-Star fan votes, the most of any rookie player.
