    Granite Fire ignites near edge of Mariposa County

    MARIPOSA COUNTY, Calif. ( KSEE/KGPE ) – Another wildfire has sparked in Mariposa County near a residential area Saturday the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office announced.

    Deputies say the “Granite Fire” ignited on both sides of Highway 132 near the Narcisco and Piney Creek area. The road is closed in both directions.

    According to Cal Fire, the Granite Fire began just before 5 p.m. and reached 70 acres 15 minutes later. Around 8 p.m. Saturday evening, the fire was knocked down to 49 acres.

    Officials advise residents not to wait to be told to evacuate— to leave immediately if they feel unsafe. Deputies were in the area making notifications to evacuate.
