PENSACOLA, Fla. (WKRG) — With all this hot weather, I bet you are like me… looking for cool indoor places for a little respite. Recently, in my travels, I found the Dali Museum in St. Peterburg, Florida. It is a museum dedicated to displaying the works of the artist Salvador Dali. You also learn a lot about the man and how he came to his unique perspective of the world.
I began to wonder how we might improve our relationships if we made an effort to look at the people in our lives from a different perspective… if we took the time to learn how they came to be the people they are and why they act and think the way they do, instead of just expecting them to see things exactly the way we do.
Perhaps we could do like I did at the Dali Museum that day. Be quiet, focus, study those hard-to-understand people, find their story, and appreciate their value.
Who are you looking at today? Do you need to view them from a different perspective? Do you need to work to understand what they are saying and doing… and why?
I confess that I still don’t “get” some of Dali’s paintings, but I like being around them and I like the way they challenge me to think about things differently. Maybe it’s the same thing with people who we don’t always “get.” Maybe we need to study them and work to understand them. Perhaps if we do that, we can turn those messy little “people” canvasses into works of art.
And that’s your minute with Drexel.
