Going from one dog to two is exciting, but it's never without risk, no matter how easygoing your existing pup is. There's always a chance that they're not going to get along at first, which can be a hard road — and, in the worst case scenarios, might mean that your adult dog has to remain an only dog, which can be the biggest bummer when your heart is set on a second. But then, there are those times when they really do fall in love right away and become inseparable, and that makes it worth the gamble.

It can sometimes be easier to add another dog of the same breed to the family, though. And in the case of the pups in the TikTok video below, it seems like that method worked, because this big sister is loving her mini-me.

We weren’t sure how long it would take for Pacha to adjust to having another dog at home, but we definitely weren’t expecting them to become inseparable after the first day 😭💛 #goldenretriever #puppiesoftiktok #dogtok #dogsoftiktok #cuteanimals #puppy

In the caption of a video that @goldengirlpacha shared on Monday July 1, the OP wrote, "We weren't sure how long it would take for Pacha to adjust to having another dog at home, but we definitely weren't expecting them to become inseparable after the first day."

As it turned out, Pacha the Golden Retriever absolutely adored her new little sister, Bucket, and the precious clips in this video show just how close they already are.

Not only do they (adorably) cuddle together, but Pacha also shares her treats, tries to teach her all of her favorite tricks, and they play together. Baby Bucket is still much smaller than her big sis, but she can really keep up!

"She has a best friend for the rest of her life," Pacha's human wrote.

And yes, people in the comments are getting puppy fever from this (hi, same). "Ugh I need a Golden for my Golden," one person wrote.

How You Know You're Ready for a Second Dog

Some people just know when they and their dog are ready to adopt a second dog, but not everyone is so sure right away. So how do you know for sure?

Bark Post recommends making sure a few things are in order first, including finances. You'll want to make sure you have enough extra cash to support a second dog, including supplies, food, medical care, and possibly even professional training. You'll also need to make sure you have the space at home and the energy that a new dog or puppy will require (potty training takes a lot out of a person).

You'll also want to make sure that the dog you have already is also prepared for the change. Is your pup socialized? Do they like hanging out with other dogs? Are they gentle around smaller dogs and animals? These can be green lights to make the change, but if they prefer flying solo, you might be better off keeping your fam small.

There's no harm in waiting until you have solid answers to all of these questions — after all, adopting a dog of any age is a huge responsibility!
