Leaving the Jersey Shore today to head home after a long holiday weekend? You might want to get on the road very soon — or wait until a bit later.

Bob Pishue, transportation analyst at INRIX, which provides transportation data and insight, said “Road trips over the holiday week could take up to 67% longer than normal. Travelers should monitor 511 services, local news stations, and traffic apps for up-to-the-minute road conditions.” The worst delays when vacationers return home are expected today, Pishue said.

The worst time to travel from the Shore to North Jersey and New York Sunday? INRIX predicts peak congestion at 2:15 p.m. today, July 7. Travelers heading back tomorrow should avoid morning and afternoon rush hours by leaving very early in the morning or later in the morning and early afternoon, according to INRIX.
