With Jurgen Klopp having taken over at Liverpool in October in 2015, this is the first summer with a new Liverpool manager for nine years.

Whereas Klopp was unable to immediately sign players to improve and enhance his squad, new Reds head coach Arne Slot can dive into the transfer market before he has to play a competitive game. Whomever is the first man through the door will be under great scrutiny. Have they worked with Slot before? Are they here to replace or displace an established member of the squad? What will the new player mean in terms of tactical set up?

And so on. While Slot gave his first press conference on Friday , we are no closer to learning who his first signing will be. However, TEAMtalk has been informed of the two positions the Dutchman is looking to address as a priority this summer.

The soccer news site claims that Slot has a left-sided centre-half and a new midfielder at the top of his wishlist. This news is hardly a revelation, as many Liverpool supporters would’ve been looking at strengthening the same areas, given the chance. The term "midfielder" is gloriously vague too; will the new man be putting out fires in front of the defense, playing on the flanks or threading through balls to the forwards in the number 10 position?

The name mentioned in the article is not a new one for the Reds’ rumor mill either: Teun Koopmeiners . He made 58 appearances for Slot at AZ Alkmaar, and more recently helped Atalanta win the Europa League at Liverpool’s expense. Koopmeiners reportedly has a $65 million (£50.8m/€60m) price tag on his head at present.

TEAMtalk has also shared reports of news from Germany regarding Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong. It claims Liverpool has made the first move with Slot in contact with the player and that his release clause is $43.3 million (£33.8m/€40m).

Like Koopmeiners, he has already been linked with the Reds at length too . But there is a clear contradiction at play here. If Slot is so keen to sign a left-sided centre-half as priority then making contact with a right (wing) back won’t solve that issue.

It might solve the future of Trent Alexander-Arnold , though, with a move into midfield the likely outcome of Liverpool signing a new player for his primary role. The answers to those questions in the second paragraph might soon fit together rather neatly.

Liverpool.com says: With so many rumors doing the rounds, it's hardly surprising that a single story can contain conflicting information. A lot will become clearer once Liverpool makes the first signing of the Slot era. The recruitment pieces will then start falling into place.
