Teun Koopmeiners asking price revealed as Liverpool remains favorite for transfer

Liverpool's interest in Atalanta's Teun Koopmeiners has been well documented - and now the price tag for the 26-year-old midfielder has been revealed.

The Netherlands international is available for a cool €60 million ($65 million). Koopmeiners, whose contract with Atalanta runs until June 2027, was a standout performer last season. He made 34 appearances in Serie A, netting 12 goals and providing five assists.

The Liverpool target's contributions were instrumental in helping Gian Piero Gasperini's team secure a fourth-place finish in Serie A and Champions League qualification. Koopmeiners has also helped Atalanta beat Bayer Leverkusen to lift the Europa League trophy.

His performances have not gone unnoticed, with several top clubs, including Liverpool, keen on securing his services. Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport reports that Liverpool is leading the race to sign Koopmeiners this summer.

However, there could be a stumbling block. Juventus is also said to be interested in the Dutchman, who would prefer to stay in Italy. Atalanta, understandably, would rather sell its star player abroad than to a direct rival - boosting Liverpool's chances

Reports in Italy have also confirmed that no official bid has been tabled for Koopmeiners yet. Speaking to Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf back in March, the player himself provided an update on his future.

"I have indicated to Atalanta that I want to make a move next summer," said the maestro. "But there must be something very nice to exchange that for Atalanta. My girlfriend and I are having a great time in Italy, but I can put up with the rain for some clubs in England! I hope there will be great options that I can think about. And then I hope that Atalanta receives a nice amount for me, because I had a wonderful time there."

When asked about Koopmeiners' future ahead of Atalanta's Europa League quarter-final second-leg clash with Liverpool, head coach Gasperini said: "He is playing with Atalanta and is also playing very well. Atalanta is in three competitions, we hope to be in everything in the next month too. It is clear that in this period of the season, there may be clubs less involved in the cups and therefore these rumors are fueled because other teams have little to do and maybe they wonder if it’s right that Atalanta are in the cup quarterfinals, so these things come out."
