LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A beautiful summer day is on tap for mid-Michigan today before some unsettled weather returns to the area for the upcoming workweek

Today is the type of day where I wish I could bottle up this type of weather and save it for one of the rainy icky days we have in the fall. It will be a beautiful July day today with temperatures right around average in the low 80s with plenty of sunshine.

Our dew points will be in the upper 50s to low 60s which means it will be rather comfortable outside. Showers move in later this afternoon to our north so we could see some fair weather clouds move in as we head into the evening hours. Overnight temperatures fall into the upper 60s with mostly clear skies however a few lingering clouds are possible.

Heading into the work week, a high-pressure system dominates the western portion of the United States, which means for the Midwest we will have multiple chances for showers and storms on the horizon with that hot and humid feel in the air. By mid-week, widespread rain is possible as the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl move into the United States.

Kicking things off, Monday initially starts sunny and warm however we will see clouds increase as the day goes on, which will limit how warm our temperatures get, if we see more clouds than sun our temperatures will be in the low to mid-80s, and if we see more sun than clouds we could warm into the mid to upper 80s easily. There is a chance for some pop-up showers and thunderstorms into Monday afternoon and evening, but nothing severe just the typical summer hit-or-miss showers.
Tuesday sees similar conditions with mostly cloudy skies and temperatures in the low 80s. Again there are a few chances for showers and storms to roll in.

By mid-week, that high-pressure system remains to our west which means that there is a possibility for us to see some heavy widespread rainfall Wednesday into Thursday as the remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl moves in.

Right now, Tropical Storm Beryl is over the Gulf of Mexico expected to intensify slightly and impact Southeast Texas late Sunday into early Monday. After Beryl makes landfall, it will weaken over land becoming a low-pressure system and eventually move northeast into the Midwest area.

Models have this system moving through the Mississippi and Ohio river valleys mid to late week with the cone of uncertainty in Lower Michigan by Thursday evening. The timing of this moving into the area looks to be late Wednesday into Thursday, bringing with it the threat of some widespread heavy rain.
