Read the Monday forecast: Hurricane Beryl will bring storms to Indiana. Here's what to expect.

As Texas gears up to face the brunt of Hurricane Beryl before dawn on Monday, central Indiana meteorologists are keeping watch on how the remnants of the storm will impact Indiana.

After touching down in Texas, the remnants of Beryl, downgraded to a tropical cyclone, will move northeast and likely cross parts of Indiana and Illinois.

Due to the storm, Central Indiana is likely to see two to four inches of rainfall late Tuesday night into Wednesday, with heavier rain in the Upper Wabash Valley around Lafayette, according to the National Weather Service Sunday.

Meteorologist Michael Koch said there could be some flooding due to the rainfall, including flooding along rivers.

    Where is Beryl now?

Currently, Beryl is a tropical storm sitting in the Gulf of Mexico . It is centered about 195 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas, and is moving northwest.

The storm formed on June 28 and quickly intensified into a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall and causing major destruction to eastern Caribbean islands.

Later, Beryl's winds strengthened to a Category 5 hurricane.

Beryl is expected to strengthen back into a Category 1 hurricane before its final landfall on Texas early Monday. Hurricane, tropical storm and storm surge warnings were in place along Texas' Gulf Coast Sunday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

    The week ahead

Koch said that it is still early to determine the direct impact of Hurricane Beryl on Central Indiana, but that local meteorologists will be monitoring the situation closely.

However, he said it is not likely that the heavy rainfall will last long. He expects drier conditions going into next weekend.

"Toward the weekend, things should improve and just get warmer," Koch said.

For now, Koch said the main concern on Tuesday and Wednesday is possible flooding in parts of Indiana.
