According to The Wall Street Journal , Jennifer Lopez sold her Bel Air mansion for $34 million last year. One can only imagine what a home worth that much contains inside it regarding appliances. If you’ve ever watched one of the reality shows that share the inside of a celebrity’s or rich person’s home, you’ve likely seen some of the unique gadgets and appliances that they own. Let’s take a look at some of the appliances wealthy people may have.

    Invisible Fridge

According to The New York Times , an invisible fridge is the newest status symbol for the wealthy. The basic premise is that wealthy people place panels on their appliances that match the custom cabinetry so that it appears like the kitchen doesn’t have a fridge. Wealthy people also use cooling drawers to store their food in the kitchen. Some of these cooling drawers are placed on the kitchen island to make it seem like there aren’t any appliances in the room.

A sub-zero fridge could cost around $15,000 for a sub-zero fridge, which you then stick a panel on, per The Guardian .

A Second Kitchen With the Same Appliances

According to Business Insider , the newest appliance trend for wealthy people is having multiple kitchens in their homes with the same appliances in each. Instead of just sticking to one fancy appliance, many wealthy people are now opting for homes with two kitchens, giving them multiple options for the same appliance.

While you may get annoyed when your microwave starts acting up, a rich person can avoid this issue by having multiple options. The goal is to have a main kitchen where guests will hang out and then another closed-off option where food can be prepared.

The basic premise is that wealthy people seek pantries and “appliance garages” to make their homes more attractive and functional. This also gives them access to a variety of appliances that they can use when the occasion strikes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter , houses with two kitchens can start at around $10 million in the Los Angeles area.

    Cabinet Fireplace

Since a regular fireplace isn’t enough for the wealthy, they have ones installed in their cabinets that are ventless. Gone are the days of chopping wood to stay warm by the fireplace.

A corner unit fireplace can run you about $10,000, according to CNET .

    Fancy Espresso Machines

A regular person may be satisfied with a basic coffee maker that does the job in the morning, but wealthy people are likely to have some sort of elaborate espresso machine for their caffeine fix.

“Fancy espresso machines can be pricey and require special beans and cleaning,” said Echo Wang, CEO and co-founder of EpicBooks . “While they make delicious coffee, a regular coffee pot gets the job done for most folks.”

In the “Beckham” documentary series on Netflix, you can see David Beckham preparing a caffeinated beverage using the La Marzocco Mini Linea machine, likely a staple for many other rich people.

You’ll spend about $8,000 if you want a machine similar to the soccer legend’s.

Other Home Features Wealthy People Love

While these aren’t appliances, they’re additional home features that wealthy people love and have in their homes.

    Home Theater

As you can imagine, a regular movie night on the couch may not be enough for a rich person. The rich love to include home theater spaces where they can entertain guests with a huge screen, comfortable seating situations and surround sound.

“They can be amazing for movie nights, but a good TV and sound system create a great experience without breaking the bank,” Wang said.

According to ProjectorScreen.com , you can pay between $10,000 and $50,000 to install a home theater. This will include the theater setup, TV, wiring and sound system. You may have to spend more on lighting and comfortable seating for your guests.

    Sauna/Spa Setup

Rich people are taking their self-care seriously by investing in indoor saunas and some sort of spa setup that could include a jacuzzi with jets that help you relax. Based on a report in Business Insider , many wealthy people want their homes to feel like a five-star hotel when it comes to a spa setup. This setup may include a sauna, steam room, massage room and even med spa. For the ultra-wealthy, they’re installing med spas so that nobody will see them going in for Botox services and other injectable treatments.

A jacuzzi can go for $16,000, per CNET . According to Forbes , an indoor custom sauna can start at $9,500. Setting up an entire med spa could cost $50,000, according to Business Insider .

    Smart-Home Systems

You may think your Alexa device is advanced, but a rich household will likely have an advanced security system and voice-controlled devices. Some of the personalized smart-home system appliances and features are even mind-blowing in 2024. For example, Oprah Winfrey purchased a $14 million property with high-tech home systems, like a heating system that keeps the driveway snow-free and a sauna that automatically increases the temperature during the session.

The cost will depend on the type of system and automation you want, but you can expect to spend anywhere from $2,000 to $7,000 for basic home automation. The costs will increase as you include additional safety features and monitoring.
