A boating collision at Navajo State Park on Saturday left one person dead and another in critical condition.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near Navajo State Park's Windsurf Beach, according to a press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). Initial reports state that a vessel collided with an inflatable tube carrying three passengers being towed behind another vessel. The victims were wearing personal floatation devices.

According to CPW's press release, one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Another was airlifted to a local hospital, and the third passenger was uninjured.

The deceased was turned over to the Archuleta County Coroner for identification and determination of the cause of death. The coroner will release any further information about the victim.

CPW marine investigators and the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office are investigating the incident. The waters near the scene of the incident are temporarily closed for the investigation, but the park, its campgrounds, and marinas are still open. Windsurf was closed but has been reopened.
