Update: As of 3:18 p.m., westbound SR 16 has reopened.

Original story: A single-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon on state Route 16 near South 19th Street has left one dead.

Washington State Patrol received reports of the collision at 1:01 p.m. A vehicle westbound on SR 16 struck a pedestrian, who may have been trying to cross the road, WSP Trooper John Dattilo told The News Tribune.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, Dattilo said.

WSP evaluated the driver of the vehicle for driving under the influence, but does not suspect that impairment was a factor in the collision, Dattilo said. At this time, there are no criminal charges against the driver.

All westbound SR 16 traffic is being diverted to South 19th Street. The estimated time for reopening is about 3:30 p.m.

The deceased has not been identified.
