Pinpoint Weather: Heat continues, daily storm chance

ROANOKE, Va. ( WFXR ) — The hot weather pattern continues across Southwest and Central Virginia for the week. Showers and thunderstorms are possible each day.

It will be a mild and muggy start to Monday with morning temperatures in the 60s and lower 70s. A mix of sun and clouds will be overhead as temperatures rise into the upper 80s and lower 90s. The humid air will make it feel hotter at times. A few showers and storms may develop during the afternoon and evening. Although the severe risk is low, showers and storms may be capable of producing downpours.

Tuesday will be one of our hottest days with afternoon highs in the lower and middle 90s. Heat index values above 100 are possible east of the Blue Ridge. Rain coverage remains isolated.

Moisture left from Beryl will move toward the Mid-Atlantic for the middle of the week. For Wednesday, morning temperatures will start in the warm 70s before reaching the 80s and lower 90s by the afternoon. Scattered showers and storms are possible, especially in the afternoon and evening. Areas of heavy rainfall may occur.

The unsettled pattern will linger through the end of the week. A few storms are possible on Thursday with afternoon temperatures warming into the 80s and lower 90s. The chance for scattered showers and storms is higher on Friday. It will be slightly cooler with highs in the 80s.

TRACKING THE TROPICS

Early Monday morning, Hurricane Beryl made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane near Matagorda, TX. The storm will weaken as it moves further inland.

Southwest and Central Virginia could see moisture associated with Beryl by the middle of the week.
