    Idaho families invited to 24th annual Custer Day this Saturday

    The public is invited to celebrate the 24th annual Custer Day with family-friendly events, food and other activities this Saturday.

    The event, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in historic Custer, Idaho, is sponsored by the Salmon-Challis National Forest, Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Land of the Yankee Fork Historical Association, according to a U.S. Forest Service press release.

    Activities include gold panning and treadle sewing demonstrations, a watermelon eating contest, raffles and more.

    To join the fun, turn off Highway 75 at Sunbeam and follow Forest Road #013 for nine miles. Attendees can park at the upper Yankee Fork Gold Dredge parking to and take a free shuttle bus to Custer. No parking is permitted in Custer, according to the press release.

    U.S. Forest Service officials recommend attendees bring sunscreen and bug spray.
