Liverpool and Michael Edwards should be worried by Manchester United's latest signings

Liverpool and CEO of football Michael Edwards should be worried about the latest developments at Manchester United. The Red Devils have made changes both on the pitch and behind the scenes, which could propel them to a competitive level once again in the Premier League .

Like Liverpool, United is entering a new era at the club as we approach the 2024/25 campaign. The changes were kickstarted by the arrival of billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who has swiftly looked to overhaul the footballing operations after acquiring a minority stake in the club.

Jason Wilcox [technical director], Omar Berrada [chief executive] and Dan Ashworth [sporting director] have already been appointed by Ratcliffe and the club has also decided to extend Ten Hag's stay at Old Trafford following the FA Cup success against Manchester City to round off the 2023/24 season.

With the new infrastructure in place, a new way of thinking has also arrived at the club. Instead of big money transfers on experienced, Champions League-level players such as Cristiano Ronaldo , Casemiro and Raphael Varane, the club is looking to recruit young and exciting talents. Bayern Munich ace Matthijs de Ligt, who worked with Ten Hag at Ajax, and Bologna's Joshua Zirkzee look the most likely arrivals in the coming days, which would represent a clear shift in recruitment strategy.

It was clear to everyone in the top flight of English football that the previous methods of recruitment were not working at United. The club finished in eighth place last season, marking the lowest finish in Premier League history for United.

As clubs like Liverpool watch on from the outside, the likes of Arne Slot and Edwards should be worried about the changes being made at Old Trafford ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The signs of progress with young talents such as Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund were clear to see last season. With the additions of more talent - like Zirkzee and De Ligt - United could quickly find themselves back in the title race shortly.

Liverpool.com says: Having United as a competitive side in the Premier League would offer yet another obstacle for Liverpool to face. Which will only make Slot's transition into English football even harder. With United, Arsenal, Man City, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Chelsea and Newcastle United, the level of competition could be at the highest we've seen in Premier League history for the top four.
