    How much rain central Iowa saw Sunday night

    DES MOINES, Iowa – Another round of showers and storms moved through central Iowa Sunday into early Monday, dropping several inches of rain for parts of the state.

    A substantial amount of rain fell in northern Iowa, largely in Wright County. Other spots like Marshalltown and Hampton picked up nearly an inch of rain. Carroll and Ankeny saw over half an inch.

    The highest rain totals came out of the Eagle Grove area. A personal weather station in that area recorded 5.21″ of rain. Not far, at Lake Cornelia, 5.48″ was reported! The Eagle Grove area was hit especially hard by flooding. Here are some of the highest totals coming in from automated weather stations:

    • Clarion: 3.06″
    • Des Moines: 1.41″
    • Fort Dodge: 1.18″
    • Grinnell: 1.07″
    • Ames: 1.00″
    • Hampton: 0.94″
    • Marshalltown: 0.92″
    • Ottumwa: 0.86″
    • Ankeny: 0.74″
    • Boone: 0.62″
    • Carroll: 0.62″
    • Oskaloosa: 0.48″
    • Newton: 0.40″
    • Perry: 0.37″
    • Knoxville: 0.37″
    • Iowa Falls: 0.34″
    • Pella: 0.34″
    • Centerville: 0.33″
    • Audubon: 0.28″
    • Lamoni: 0.21″
    • Chariton: 0.14″
    • Algona: 0.11″
    • Osceola: 0.01″

    A few additional spotty showers are possible tonight and Tuesday night, but most locations should stay dry. More widespread showers and storms are expected Wednesday.
