OKLAHOMA (KOAM) -- The Oklahoma Highway Safety Office and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is reminding drivers that speeding has dangerous consequences with its "Speeding Catches Up with You" campaign.

According to OHSO , there were more than 12,000 fatalities in speeding-related crashes in 2022 in the state of Oklahoma, accounting for 29% of total fatalities in the U.S.

"The effects of speeding are deadly," said OHSO Director Paul Harris. "We are urging drivers to please slow down. The choices you make behind the wheel could help save lives. Ultimately, Speeding Catches Up With You."

OHSO says young drivers and motorcyclists are especially susceptible to high speeds. In 2022, 35% of male drivers and 19% of female drivers in the 15 to 20 years old age group were involved in fatal speeding-related crashes.
