Heat and air quality problems until rain

The heat wave only intensifies as we kick off a new week. A Heat Advisory is now in effect for most of our area for Monday and Tuesday for heat index values around 100°. Additional heat advisories may even be needed on Wednesday. Maximum heat index values ranging from 95 to 101 are forecasted for many areas. This level of rare and/or long-duration extreme heat with little to no relief affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.

An Air Quality Alert has also been issued with much of our area under a code orange. A code orange air quality alert means that air pollution concentrations within the region may become unhealthy for sensitive groups. Sensitive groups include people suffering from asthma, heart disease or other lung diseases. This is another reason to limit your time outdoors.

What could help bring relief to the heat wave surprisingly enough is the remnants of Beryl. The storm made landfall off the coast of Texas early Monday morning as a category one hurricane. It brought powerful winds, damaging storm surge, and flooding rains to the Galveston and Houston area. The storm is forecast to continue to move north as a low pressure system, ejecting moisture towards to the central US and northeast. Several rounds of storms are forecast here in the Delaware Valley starting Wednesday and Thursday. This may drop our temperatures into the 80s by Friday.
