A 79-year-old man being held at Hillsborough’s Falkenburg Road Jail died after staff found him unresponsive Sunday, deputies said.

Jail personnel found the man unresponsive shortly before 11:30 p.m., according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies and medical staff performed lifesaving measures before Hillsborough County Fire Rescue took him to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Deputies were withholding the man’s name until his next of kin is notified.

The sheriff’s office said a preliminary investigation indicated the man had recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and had other health issues and was awaiting transfer to Florida State Hospital.

The man is the second inmate at the Falkenburg Road Jail to die in recent days.

Pedro Morales, 45, was found unresponsive at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials took Morales to HCA Florida Brandon Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The sheriff’s office said Morales appeared to have suffered a “medical incident.”

The sheriff’s office was investigating both deaths.
